A Work In Progress

Yesterday, my pastor shared a great message titled “Ever Wonder What God Is Up To?”. The verses that he focused on were Ephesians 2:1-10 but one verse stood out to me above all the rest.

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

It was much like another verse that I had actually read during my quiet time which was Jeremiah 18:4.It says, “But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.”

OK, please tell me I’m not the only one who identifies with the marred pot! There have been SO many times that I thought I had used up all my chances of God being able to use me but this verse gives me hope. God doesn’t look down and see the mess I’ve made and leave me in it. Instead, He picks me up and shapes me into something better. If that isn’t grace, I don’t know what is! 🙂

Imagine for a moment the patience it took for the potter to make this new creation. Just think of how much attention to detail that it took to get it just right. I can’t help but think of the joy and the smile he had when it was finally complete. Can’t you almost hear him say, “This is my creation and I am well pleased with it!”? I get chills just thinking about it!

That is exactly what God says of us when we allow Him to mold us and shape us according to how He sees fit. We are all works in progress but with God, we become works in process and that process makes all the difference. It is perfect and it is always for our good!

Much like the guy in the video, I am so grateful that my God can rescue me from anything but I often find myself hesitant to let Him have complete control. I’m not even sure why I do it!

Do you find it difficult to let God have complete control too?

It can be uncomfortable and scary admitting that what you thought you held onto all along is in fact what God is asking you to let go of. But don’t let that stop you from doing it. The enemy knows that if he can hold you in this state of confusion or struggle that you will be ineffective. But rest assured, if you hand it over to God, He will do things in your life that are beyond your biggest dreams!

When you allow God to come in and remove the things that are not of Him, He will not leave you empty like the world does.

Instead of guilt, He gives grace.

Instead of pride, He gives peace.

Instead of fear, He gives faith.

Remember, God never forces Himself on you. Like the good Father He is, He waits patiently for his child to come to Him and when they do, nothing can hold Him back to come and rescue them!

So, here it is, the moment of truth. Do you want to be molded into something great or just be a lump of clay? The choice is yours.
